Master's Degree, M.D., Ed.D., J.D., and PhD
In addition to helping you create the list, meet the deadlines, gather transcripts, prepare your CV, and decide what kind of prep to do for standardized tests, I offer the following services:
Sleuth Work: So much goes on behind the scenes of graduate admissions! I do some of the sleuth work for you so that you know the stuff departments don't put on their website before you apply.
Academic Boot Camp: There's a world of difference between what earns an A in undergrad and what counts as graduate-level research and thought. If I feel that you need a boot camp to make you more competitive, together we will research the most published authors in your field so that we can read and discuss their recent peer-reviewed journal publications. We will also read selected publications of the faculty in the departments you are applying to and find ways to talk to current graduate students in the program.
Statement of Purpose:
You can graduate Phi Beta Kappa from an Ivy League university, have a 4.0 GPA and perfect GRE scores, but if your SOP does not impress the Admissions Committee, you will be denied a spot. I help you brainstorm, outline, structure, and craft the statement. While I do not ghost-write your SOP, I go far beyond the typical essay-writing assistance, by helping you research and understand relevant professors' previous publications so that you can tailor each statement to the particular strength of the graduate program. I help you achieve the language, maturity, and tone that differentiate the writing of a smart undergraduate student from an emerging scholar. Faculty/professors on Admissions Committees (AdComs) read hundreds of SOPs every year.
Writing Sample:
I help you figure out which paper/essay from undergrad to submit or whether you should start from scratch. We'll revise and edit your samples until they represent you as a young scholar ready to deliver graduate-level thinking, research, and writing.
Interview Preparation:
Interviews are scary. I prepare you to perform your best through guidelines, practice sessions, and mock interviews.
Conference Preparation:
I help you participate in relevant professional organizations. If you are an appropriate candidate, I will help you submit an abstract for a paper at a conference in your field or make certain you attend a relevant conference where you can meet faculty members who may be on the admissions committee.
Sharing Strategies No One Tells You About:
You are entering a stiff competition. I offer helpful hints, secrets, and dos & don'ts gathered from years of behind-the-scenes experience. Working individually with someone who has completed a PhD and gained experience "on the other side" of the journey you are on puts you in a unique position that gives you a competitive edge.
