There's a world of difference that distinguishes a remarkable essay from a good essay, and a good essay isn't necessarily "good enough" to get in. This service is for students who really don't know where to begin or what to write about. It's also for students who think they need to have had conquered a major life challenge in order to write their essay (hint: you don't!). And for students who, unbeknownst to them, planned to write about one of the more cliche topics that are better to avoid. You might feel like you have nothing to say. Maybe you stare at the blank piece of paper or computer screen and find yourself filled with dread. Or maybe you have so many ideas that you can't figure out how to incorporate all of them into a single essay without seeming scatterbrained. I work with you from start to finish, finding an approach best suited to showcase your personality, character, values, and experiences. After guiding you through extensive brainstorming and self-reflection, I help you narrow the topic, plan, pick the best anecdotes and examples, outline, draft, write, strengthen, revise, revise, and revise some more. The Personal Statement is just 650 words. Every. Single. Word. Matters. After reading samples from previously successful applicants, you will gain familiarity with the personal essay as a specific art form and be inspired to write your own.
Essay Revisions: $1000 - $2000You've created a solid draft, but you sense that it lacks personality, doesn't measure up, or needs a little extra something to stand out. You might have great content but need to restructure. Maybe your examples are lackluster or you need help figuring out how to "show" not "tell." This service helps you take it to the next level. This includes up to 3 rounds of revision with written commentary and final proofreading.
Essay Proofreading: $500If all you need are some last-minute tweaks, an extra eye to catch wordiness or repetition, an eye for vocabulary, and a complete grammar and syntax check but no one-on-one counselling, just email me your essay for a final, extremely thorough lookover with complete commentary. This is your last chance to catch any mistakes before pressing SUBMIT.
Supplemental Essays: $250 - $1000 per school (based on number and length of essays)Don't let the supplemental essays creep up on you at the end! They can be just as challenging--and definitely more time consuming--as the main essay. Each college has different topics, so preparing these if you plan to apply to 9-12 schools can take a long time! The topics range far and wide, which means you often can't replicate much from one application to the next. This year, for instance:
Senior Year Complete Application A-Z: $6000Using either the Common App or the UC Personal Insight Questions (your choice), together we will complete one entire application, including the Supplemental Essays for one school. This service can be especially useful if you want to apply early decision. This all-inclusive senior service includes all services described in Just the Essay.
Junior/Senior Bundle: $10,500This is the most popular service. It takes you through the entire process and is ideal to purchase the summer before junior year but can be useful as late as start of summer after junior year. This package includes
Multi-Year Counseling: $15,000 (Sophomore-Senior); $18,000 (Frosh-Senior)This service goes beyond the prime college application years and gives you a head start from either 9th or 10th grade. I help you select your school (if relevant), course load, electives, languages, honors and/or AP classes, community/volunteer involvement, athletics, and extracurricular activities. I also help you cultivate teacher relationships and find internships, jobs, and other summer opportunities, in addition to everything included in the Junior/Senior Bundle. The added benefit to working with a coach for several years is that nothing comes as a surprise. When the time comes to prepare the applications, students are more than ready! In fact, half of the work will be completed when other kids are only beginning. You will have compiled your activity list along the way, and you will have built a balanced college list over a long period of time. The added benefit for families is that the pressure is 100% off of parent/s to supervise deadlines and micromanage the process! Instead of nagging your kids, you can participate in the college process in an encouraging and loving manner, supporting them by helping them plan campus visits and exploring their interests rather than adding pressure to an already overwhelming process.
Crisis Management: $7500*You left it to the last minute and there's only so much you can do before the deadline. There's no time to start over but you know it's not good enough. You have the raw material (a decent GPA, strong enough curriculum and extracurriculars), but you need help pulling it all together. If you don't get your act together now, you might have to go to community college for a year then transfer, and you would prefer not to. Your parent/s are tearing their hair out and breathing down your neck (from your perspective). Your child has been irresponsible and fallen behind (from their perspective). You need a miracle. If you have 1-2 weeks left and are willing to put in a lot of time, this intense rescue service offers a consultation, crisis management, essay assistance, and complete application review with a minimum of 10 hours of personalized attention.
*Subject to availability Hourly Rates: $275/hrIf none of the above services sound just right for you, feel free to Contact me and let me know what kind of assistance you need. I'm happy to create a special package for you or work on an hourly basis.
